Prayers

On this page you will find some prayers that you may find useful.

Some are used regularly in our devotions others could be useful for a particular time or situation. Prayer is talking to God, a two way thing, which means we should also listen to God speaking to us!

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Collect for Purity
Almighty God,
unto Whom all hearts be open,
all desires known,
and from Whom no secretes are hid:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love Thee,
and worthily magnify Thy holy Name:
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

For The Sick
Father in heaven,
have mercy on all who are sick
in body, mind or spirit . . .
May they know You are with them
and that You love and care for them:
give them peace, patience, courage,
endurance and confidence in You:
remove all anxiety, fear and pain:
and if it is best for them, heal them:
for JESUS’ sake, who loved and healed the sick.

Trust God
GOD be in my head,
and in my understanding:
GOD be in my eyes,
and in my looking:
GOD be in my mouth,
and in my speaking:
GOD be in my heart,
and in my loving:
GOD be in my mind,
and in my thinking:
GOD be at my end,
and at my departing.
The Sarum Primer

LET NOTHING disturb you:
let nothing frighten you:
all things pass:
GOD never changes.
Patience achieves
all that it strives for.
He who has GOD
finds he lacks nothing.
St. Teresa of Avila (d. 1582)

The Holy Spirit
DON’T you know that your body
is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT, who lives in you,
and was given to you by GOD?
You do not belong to yourselves but to GOD:
He bought you for a price
(the price of His S0n’s death on the Cross).
So use your bodies for GOD’S glory.
I Corinthians 6

Collect for the feast of Saint Mark
Almighty God,
who enlightened your holy Church
through the inspired witness of your evangelist Saint Mark:
grant that we, being firmly grounded in the truth of the gospel,
may be faithful to its teaching both in word and deed;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
